Ansai waist-drum master Chen Pei Liang teaching his daughter the art. He performed at the opening ceremony of the 1990 Asian Games, serving as leading performer of the 1,000-strong waist-drum dancing team. The 2,000-year-old Ansai Drum Dance was originally a way of signalling danger during war times. It is now part of the hustle-bustle of the Chinese New Year celebrations on the Loess Plateau. The art has received considerable attention in recent decades.
